Sign Language Interpreters have some of the most manually intensive work of all Australian workers, are exposed to significant risk of crippling overuse and environmental injuries and yet the industry is very immature in a Work Health and Safety sense.

Australian legislation requires business owners to provide a safe environment for all workers, and the TerpSafe Toolkit is in preparation to improve interpreters’ safety. It does this through educating workers, employers and those who hire interpreters to understand their duties (responsibilities) and to provide tools and organisation models that are efficient, effective and economical.
